If you’re traveling through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and considering a stop at the American Express Centurion Lounge Phoenix, temper your expectations. While Centurion Lounges are often known for premium service, chef-driven dining, and stylish design, the PHX Centurion Lounge feels dated and underwhelming compared to newer Amex locations.
First Impressions
The Centurion Lounge Phoenix is one of the older lounges in the Amex network, and it shows. The décor and furnishings are functional but tired, with a slightly stale and uninspiring atmosphere. If you’ve experienced modern Centurion Lounges in Dallas (DFW) or Denver (DEN), this one will feel more like a step backward than a premium retreat.
Food & Drinks
Dining is usually the highlight of the Centurion experience, but the food at the Centurion Lounge PHX was disappointing. I sampled a small plate, but it wasn’t memorable enough to finish.
Here’s what was on offer during my visit:
- Snacks: Goldfish crackers, pretzels
- Warm items: Non-meat orange chicken, marinated pork tenderloin, rice, mixed vegetables
- Cold items: Egg salad sandwich, Caesar salad with toppings, mixed fruit
- Dessert: Pre-packaged Rice Krispie treats (later swapped out for lemon macadamia cookies) and brownies
On the beverage side, the complimentary bar with cocktails, wine, and beer is available, but it felt more “standard” than premium. There was also a side bar with water, lemonade, and a coffee machine—but the machine was out of service during my visit.
Seating & Amenities
Seating is adequate for a mid-sized lounge, but the space was crowded during my stay. Despite this, it’s still quieter and more comfortable than the terminal. Wi-Fi was strong, outlets were plentiful, and the bathrooms were clean and modern.
One nice touch: there’s a reserved area within the lounge for Centurion (Black Card) holders, which adds an extra layer of exclusivity, even if you don’t have access yourself.
Bottom Line: Centurion Lounge Phoenix Review
The American Express Centurion Lounge PHX provides a break from the terminal but falls short of the elevated Centurion experience frequent travelers expect. If you already have lounge access with an Amex Platinum or Centurion Card, it’s still a better option than sitting at your gate—but not one worth arriving early to enjoy.
For seasoned Centurion Lounge visitors, Phoenix will likely feel like a lounge overdue for a refresh. Unless you simply need a quiet seat and Wi-Fi, you may be better off grabbing a meal from one of the airport’s restaurants and waiting at your gate.
